Bring Your Parents Home
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residency in Canada.

The Process
The PGP operates on an "Interest to Sponsor" system. Sponsors must submit an interest form when IRCC opens the program. IRCC then randomly selects and invites potential sponsors to submit a full application.
Note: The 2025 intake for the Parents and Grandparents Program is officially closed. IRCC will announce future intakes on its website and social channels.
Sponsor Requirements
To sponsor your parents or grandparents, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a registered Indian.
- Live in Canada.
- Prove that you have enough income to support the persons you want to sponsor. You must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) plus 30% for each of the 3 consecutive taxation years preceding the date of your application (Note: Temporary exceptions applied for the 2020 and 2021 tax years where only the regular MNI was required).
- Sign an undertaking promising to financially support the sponsored family members for 20 years in most provinces (Note: In Quebec, the undertaking period is 10 years).
If you are not selected in the PGP lottery, the Super Visa is an excellent alternative. Sawubona Canada can help you evaluate your options and prepare your applications.
